Description The Bittinger Worktext Series changed the face of developmental education with the introduction of objective-based worktexts that presented math one concept at a time.
This approach allowed students to understand the rationale behind each concept before practicing the associated skills and then moving on to the next topic. With this revision, Marv Bittinger continues to focus on building success through conceptual understanding, while also supporting students with quality applications, exercises, and new review and study materials to help them apply and retain their knowledge. A fresh design enhances the Bittinger approach to guided learning.
Margin exercises are now grouped by example for easier navigation, and the answers are given at the bottom of the page for immediate feedback. Objective Boxes begin each section. A boxed list of objectives is keyed by letter not only to section subheadings, but also to the section exercise sets and the Mid-Chapter Review and the Summary and Review exercises, as well as to the answers to the questions in the Chapter Tests and Cumulative Review.
This correlation enables students to easily find appropriate review material if they need help with a particular exercise of skill at the objective level. Annotated Examples provide notes from the authors with color highlights to lead the student through the structured steps of the examples. Margin Exercises accompany examples throughout the text and give students the opportunity to work similar problems for immediate practice and reinforcement of the concept just learned.
Answers are now available at the bottom of the page. Objective: Conceptual Understanding Synthesis Exercises help build critical-thinking skills by requiring students to use skills and concepts from the current section along with those from previous sections.
These are available in most exercise sets. Translating for Success problem sets give extra practice with the important "Translate" step of solving word problems. Visualizing for Success problem sets ask students to match equations and inequalities with their graphs, allowing them to recognize the important characteristics of the equation and visualize the corresponding attributes of its graph.
Skill to Review exercises, linked to section objectives, offer just-in-time review of previously presented skills that students will need to learn new material. Section references for convenient studying are followed by two practice exercises for immediate review and reinforcement. Answers to these exercises are given at the bottom of the page for immediate feedback.
Skill Maintenance Exercises , found in each exercise set, review concepts from other sections in the text to prepare students for tests. Section and objective codes appear next to each exercise for easy reference. View More Textbook Editions. Section 1.
