Racing officials accreditation program




















The ROAP Certificate Course is a two-day course, consisting of one day of general education for all officials and one day of job-specific modules geared toward each specific racing official position. Each student will receive training in all specified racing official positions.

The course will be conducted at a racetrack to ensure the students receive experience in the environment in which they will work.

The two-day course will conclude with a short assessment and the granting of a certificate of completion to those who complete the entire course. Belmont Park. Churchill Downs. Del Mar. The Commission has preference for someone that has previous employment as a Safety Officer, Steward or Racing Official and has been certified by a national organization Racing Officials Accreditation Program.

The applicant shall have a comprehensive understanding of the laws of the State of WY and the rules promulgated by the Wyoming Pari-Mutuel Commission. Applicants will make decisions regarding possible rule infractions and communicate all concerns to the Stewards presiding over the race meet. Be available to the Stewards, State Vet. The applicant must have good communication skills, both verbally and in written form, be computer literate and possess strong people skills.

A complete job description is available on request. Physical Expectations: vision corrected and the ability to distinguish colors and be able to climb stairs. Requires extensive time in the barn area and monitoring of track related activity.

Even though the USTA does not license Associate Judges at county fairs, we strongly encourage you to serve in that capacity prior to examination. Associate Judge Minimum of 2 years experience involving 75 racing days per year as a USTA Licensed Official in another capacity, such as Patrol Judge, Paddock Judge, Clerk of the Course, Race Secretary, Starter or Identifier In lieu of 2 years experience, completion of the Racing Officials Accreditation Program Satisfactory completion of the required exam Please note : This license will be a restricted license, only issued upon verification of employment.

The restriction will be lifted after one year of employment and a written letter of recommendation from the licensed official that you worked for.
